Ogechi Ogu Esq. is the Deputy Director Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) and National Coordinator Olive Justice Development Initiative. She is a member of Association of Professional Negotiators and Mediators of Nigeria; International Corrections & Prisons Association (ICPA); Staff Training and Development Community Corrections’ Sub Committee of ICPA; International Corrections and Prisons Association – Africa Chapter (ICPA-AFRICA). She was the Team Lead, Security & Justice Unit of PRAWA and coordinated the Nigeria Police Force Human Rights Training Project from 2016 to 2018.
Ogechi Ogu’s academic qualifications include B.A, English Language/ Literature, Imo State University Okigwe (1990) LL.B, Abia State University Uturu (2009) ; BL Nigerian Law School, Abuja, (2011) and she recently completed a Master of Studies in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University, England, United Kingdom with specialty in International Rights of Women and Gender Related Discrimination; International Rights of Children; Transitional Justice and Human Rights and Environmental Law. She also has a Certificate of Training on Gender Integration in Political Transition Environments (Online Training Course, United States Agency for International Development, Office of Transition Initiatives -May 25, 2016)
She is very passionate about the plight of women and children, and has delivered several presentations on the need to mainstream gender and child rights into human rights practice especially in criminal justice settings. She recently carried out a research on the Right to Survival and Development of the Child with special focus on the Almajiri System in Kano State of Nigeria (MST in International Human Rights Law, Oxford University)
Ogechi Ogu Esq. has skills in training, advocacy and research, has developed several resource materials and implemented several Justice reform-oriented projects. She has also delivered many presentations on Human Rights at National and International Conferences.
