Honourable Justice Peter Oyin Affen

The Honourable Justice Peter Oyin Affen is a serving Judge of the High Court of the F.CT, Abuja, Nigeria since 2007. He presides over high profile anti-corruption cases, commercial and land matters, matrimonial causes, sensitive election/political matters and public interest litigations, amongst others. 

Enrolled as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1995, his Lordship is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and the Nigerian Law School –emerging as a triple prizeman in the former. 

His Lordship’s previous role as counsel representing local and foreign interests at all levels of court in Nigeria, together with his present responsibilities as a Judicial Officer, have afforded him a firsthand experience of the challenges confronting legal practice and equipped him to contribute to Nigeria’s evolving jurisprudence. 

The Honourable Justice Affen is a regular resource person at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja; and has delivered papers and contributed articles on contemporary legal issues in reputable Law Journals and other publications. His Paper titled ‘Judicialism in Nigeria: Gasping for Breath Under Our Watch’ [2017] 10 Law and Policy Review, pp. 1 – 36] is a must-read for everyone genuinely concerned about legal development in Nigeria.
